The Fizz Inflator LabWe had fun time this week with the Fizz Inflator Lab! Students selected their own question, designed their own experiment, collected and analyzed data, and wrote a claim-evidence-reasoning explanation. At this point, their lab packets should be complete. If there are any portions that are not done, they should be complete for homework this weekend. Tentative plans for September 18-22Monday:
Present and Defend our Fizz Inflator Investigations* *As students present, they will turn in their completed lab packets. The Data Analysis section will be graded for understanding. All other sections will be graded for completion. Students can find the score sheet for the lab in Google Classroom. Tuesday: Finish any presentations if necessary. Review for the QPOEE quiz Homework: Study for tomorrow's quiz! (Use your foldable and the Science Starters from the last few days. There is also a quizlet available if you wish to use it.) Wednesday: QPOEE Quiz! This quiz will cover all of the success criteria for the single learning target in this mini-unit. The learning target and well as a link to a Quizlet set can be found in Google Classroom. Thursday: Begin IRP topic selection process Preliminary research Friday: Continue with IRP Research (Day 2 of 4) More research and group meetings Each Friday, I will post the tentative plans for the upcoming week here, in this blog section. Please know that these plans are "optimistic", meaning that I plan for a little more than I anticipate that we be able to accomplish. It is very important to respond to students' needs so if I find that more time is needed for an activity or if re-teaching would be helpful before a test or quiz, I may "bump" things back a day in the plans. This means that if you check the list on Monday, the activity that was scheduled for Friday might not actually happen on Friday. I will do my very best to keep the list updated in a timely fashion so that students and parents will have an accurate reference throughout the week.

Review and Revise your Data Analysis Section based on the lesson Friday, September 15: 1. Complete Fizz Inflator Lab (and turn in) *HW = Finish Fizz Inflator Lab packet if you don't get it done in class. This week in class, we focused on the scientific Habits of Mind. These are characteristics that we encourage all year long in our students while they are thinking and acting like scientists. Students took a short vocabulary quiz about these words in class on Friday. Scores will be entered into Infinite Campus over the weekend. We also started preparing for our first experiment, the Fizz Inflator Investigation, that will begin on Monday.
Thanks to all who were able to make it out to open house last night. It was great to meet you face to face! If you weren't able to attend, I've included a link to the slideshow that was presented below. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me anytime. Thank you! Open House Slide Show It was great to have have all of the students back to school! Students have now made it through all of their classes and tomorrow will be a "normal" day. Students did not receive their syllabus in science class yet...we'll go over that tomorrow...but I've attached it here in case you'd like to preview the information. Today we spent time getting to know each other and thinking about the process of analyzing data in scientific investigations. If you have any questions at all, please let me know. I am looking forward to a great year! Thank you, Mrs. Foreback I hope that you are all enjoying the last few weeks of summer! Soon, it will be time to head back to school and I'm looking forward to seeing all of the students. As you prepare for the new school year, I encourage you to explore this website so that you will be familiar with where to find information as the school year progresses. Check out the This website will help you to keep up on what is going on in class, but most of the instructional materials (handouts, readings, videos, etc.) will be shared with students directly using Google Classroom. You can expect that this site will be updated about once a week or so.

Is this page just for parents and guardians? No! This blog is for anyone who wants to know what is going on in our class (that should include students too!). Just because the language is written with parents/guardians in mind, that doesn't mean that students won't benefit from checking in with this blog. It just means that parents don't have to wade through all of the resources posted under the instructional unit section of this site. Likewise, that section of the website isn't meant to be a "parent-free" zone. Parents/guardians can use the resources posted there to help their student or just to stay in touch with what's going on in the classroom. Archives
